A fun meeting spot in south Orange County is the Dana Point Harbor in Dana Point, CA. As children my sisters and I rode our roller skates and learned to sail at the harbor. My kids and I have spent hours at the Ocean Institute, walked many miles, picnicked and much, much, more. The harbor is also a fun place to meet up with friends grab a bite to eat, walk and talk.
On a recent Saturday we met up with my friend to eat breakfast, catch up, and take a walk before she headed back home to San Diego. The sun was shining so we decided to eat outdoors. Our bagels and coffee were delicious. Most weekends there is a line for food at Coffee Importers, but there is so much to look at making the wait pleasant.
When the eating was done we walked, we talked, and we walked some more. With many miles of paved walking paths you can get in a nice workout. The scenery, fresh air, and fantastic company further contributed to this special way to begin my day
How to enjoy yourself at the Dana Point Harbor:
- people watch
- dog watch (this is a dog walking place)
- practice your boat photography
- practice your nature photography
- have a picnic at one of the many picnic tables, benches, and grassy areas spread throughout the harbor.
- have breakfast, lunch, or dinner with family or friends at one of the many eateries
- drive (or better yet, walk) across the bridge to the island and look for the white squirrels.
- Sit out on the island and watch the boats come and go out to sea
- rent a kayak
- spend the afternoon at the Ocean Institute or take part if one of their special programs
- go boating
- explore the Dana Point headlands nature preserve and visitor center (nearby)
- meet a friend for coffee and walk and talk (one of my favorite dates)
- combine one or more of the above with a walk and you have a lovely outing
